Yacht – Shangri-La

Yacht – Shangri-La
[DFA, 2011]

Portland’s dance punks Yacht are back with the fifth album, Shangri-La. Yacht, if you didn’t know, is Young Americans Challenging High Technology, and the mentioned Americans are Jona Bechtolt and Claire Evans.

Like pretty much everything released on DFA, Shangri-La is full of happy dance music. The atmosphere of celebration and partying, a bit of harmless hooliganism, constant feeling of love in the background, light drunkedness. Like they’re testing the limits of what they can get away with, and having fun. One Step goes like this:

…Three steps over the line,
Three steps isn’t a crime…

Dystopia has some good lyrics as well:

The Earth, the Earth is on fire!
We don’t have no daughter,
Let the motherfucker burn!

There are lots of quotable bits, but it’s better to listen.
The verdict: Yacht stay one of the best bands for the parties inside your head. Great dance pop by DFA recipe.
