Holy Ghost! – Holy Ghost!
[DFA, 2011]
Holy Ghost is a band I can’t stop listening to after overloading with nostalgia of the whole LCD Soundsystem discography. From the New York duo Alex Frankel and Nick Millhiser grew into a 4-piece full band, and their self-titled debut album is more than just a recipe for a good electro-pop sound.
I can’t strictly define what they have… of New Order, of LCD Soundsystem – of all the music successfully balancing between “too pop” and “boring after the 20th listen.” I’m most magnetized, probably, by the masterful keyboards and relaxed dancing beats. If Do It Again swings the doors open, Wait And See gives you the full taste of a hit! (The main hook of the song brings to mind Depeche Mode’s “Just Can’t Get Enough.”)
One of my favorites is a disco of Slow Motion.
How do you know what I say, I haven’t said it
Maybe I do, maybe I don’t better forget it
Out of the house, into the car, over the ocean
We should do it again, in slow motion
Holy Ghost! can be accused of being overly easy and not too original. But, taking the strength and quality of their influence on your mood as criteria, it’s 10 out of 10.
