ceo – White Magic
[Sincerely Yours, 2010]
ceo is Eric Berglund, one half of the Swedish duo The Tough Alliance and founders of Sincerely Yours label. His solo album, “White Magic”, is mostly built on great melodies, memorable as they are and with characteristic features of TTA – like a radio-effect on the background of the main sound and recognizable vocals. The brightest song, Come With Me (also a single), is located towards the end of the album, but I never wanted to fast-forward to it, listening from the first sounds of the opening All Around, for almost 30 minutes of the album.
Come with me to a place I call reality…
Without a song-by-song analysis, I can say that the whole atmosphere of White magic is dreamy and optimistic. A wonderful skill of TTA to bring (back) good mood transferred here as well. No rose colored glasses, no butterflies fluttering their wings around you, it’s more of staying joyful no matter what. A kind of “boy pop”, best of its kind. Like The Tough Alliance, ceo is a great example of pop for me, this is what pop music should be like – joyful, fun, with a good beat and even better melodies. The main thing is ease and joy in each song.
