Sex Mob meets Medeski - Live in Willisau

Sex Mob meets Medeski - Live in Willisau 2006
[Thirsty Ear, 2009]

Sex Mob is a jazz ensemble formed in 1995 for “late nite hang”, and that characterizes their music to the point. Live in WIllisau is (obviously) a live album written with keyboardist John Medeski in 2006. Steven Bernstein and the band make perfect jazz. Nothing too clever and mentoring. It’s a joyful and somewhat indecent jazz with a hint of New Orleans’ bordello and cues of spies films. Worth mentioning Sex Mob’s “Does Bond” album. Classic compositions (Black and Tan Fantasy by Duke Ellington) side with pop covers (Sign ‘O the Times by Prince). Virtuosity and dancing on air, lightness and masterful improvisations - all this brings about respect at the least, and admiration at the most - to this jazz band. This music, by the way, makes you work with special feel, as if you’re creating a fugitive masterpiece yourself.
