Montt Mardié - Skaizerkite
Montt Mardié - Skaizerkite
[Hybris, 2009]
A 25-year old David Olof Peter Pagmar, a.k.a. Montt Mardié from Stockholm, has released his third album, Skaizerkite. A lively, sweet and jumpy pop, without the gloss of Hollywood, European-style easy. The vocals at times do smell of Robert Smith of the Cure, but in general the music is so much lighter than that of the British band. In the best style of the Swedish Hybris label, Skaizerkite is filled with sunlight and happiness. Montt Mardié puts these into rhythms and melodies, only at times breaking in romantic ballads, like A Wedding in June - with Andreas Mattsson. Another featuring brings up Hanna Lovisa on Unknown Pleasures. Both collaborations are not first-timers with Montt Mardié, adding a drop of variety to the album.
Overall, the album is very youthful and romantic. The music is best for small discos or weekend hanging out with friends. On the opener Welcome to Stalingrad, he mentions Douglas Coupland, and one of my favorites is Elisabeth by the Piano. Although it’s quite hard to choose the favorites here, all these strings and horns and 80s style have something subtle and shiny. Simple and beautiful, always cheering up.
P.S. Yeah, and another thing worth mentioning is a non-album track, We Are All The Pirate Bay, uploaded by Montt Mardié on The PirateBay in May 2009.
